Recommended Hardware for Linux installation.

We are planning on migrating our texis databases from Sun Solaris to Linux. Do you have any recommendation for Hardware configuration for x86 based systems? And also, what flavor of Linux do you recommend?

Here’s a brief idea of what we currently have in mind.

"Dell deul xeon or Pentium4 processors with 2~4 GB of RAM, EMC storage solution and Redhat 9.0."

Thanks in advance.

Multi-processor is helpful for multiuser applications. Get as much ram and Mhz as you can reasonably afford.

We develop on Redhat but the binaries will run on various Linux distributions as long as they have similar revs of glibc. Make sure System V IPC (semaphores and shared memory) is enabled in the kernel (it generally is by default).
