webinator security URL

i'm trying to do something like this in order to get around webserver level security.

http://user:password@www.myserver.com

most browsers will accept this url and authenticate the user. Has anyone managed to allow Webinator to spider pages which are protected by webserver level security..

On the "All Walk Settings" page there is a Login Info area that takes a Name and Password for HTTP Basic Authentication.

It does not work. I'm trying to index a site and whenever I enter the login and password in the All Walk Settings, I get prompted "Please confirm which user you are changing the password for" followed by a list of accounts. These are not accounts on the system I'm trying to index nor in Webinator.

Then, no matter what I answer to this prompt, when I start the walk it is unable to log in to the site and index anything.

That's not a Webinator message. Maybe it's your system or browser trying to remember passwords for you.

After you save the settings click "all walk settings" again, even if you're in them already. Then scroll down to see if the login info is correct. Make sure the CaSe is correct and there are no extra spaces.

Set your "Rewalk Type" to New to ensure that you're doing a full walk every time until you know it's working correctly.

Also remember that this thread and option is talking about "HTTP Basic Authentication". If your login is form and/or cookie based you need to use primer url instead.

It turns out that's a Firefox-specific message. I tried again in IE and didn't get the message. However, the walk still did not work.

The Rewalk Type is set to New. The server I'm trying to index uses HTTP Basic authentication under Apache on Windows.

What error do you get back in the walk status for the protected page?

Maybe it has other protections like IP or such too?
