Rewalk on schedule doesn't work

Post by markell »

I was setting up a daily Rewalking (on schedule) in the configuration menu "All Waking Settings", but it doesn't seem to work. If I start the dowalk manually it's working without problems.

I checked the vortex.log and found the following log-messages:
000 Aug 24 04:00:01 Could not open SYSTABLES in the function ddopen
000 Aug 24 04:00:01 Could not connect to . in the function openntexis
000 Aug 25 04:00:01 Could not open SYSTABLES in the function ddopen

... but, what does this mean?

My Environment: Webinator 4.2 / Apache 1.3 / Windows 2000

Thanks for advice,
Roger

Did you get any messages in the walk status?

Unschedule the walk by setting frequency to none and updating. The try scheduling it again. Watch the top of the page. There should be a notice in gray background indicating what happened.

Also make sure the monitor is running as a service. From a dos prompt run
INSTALLDIR\monitor -U
INSTALLDIR\monitor -k
INSTALLDIR\monitor -R

In the walking status I just have the information about the last walk I started manually.

After unschedule and reschedule I get "Rewalk scheduled for "daily at 4" " in the grey banner at the top of the page.

The monitor is running as service, unfortunately I checked it in the services-menu after I run the mentioned "monitor" calls, so I'm not sure if it was running as service before ... I'll check tomorrow if it was rebuilding the index...

It still isn't working. It seems to be still the same problem ... I appended also parts from the monitor.log, maybe this gives more information.

vortex.log
000 Aug 26 04:00:00 Could not open SYSTABLES in the function ddopen
000 Aug 26 04:00:00 Could not connect to . in the function openntexis

monitor.log:

000 Aug 26 04:00:00 Could not open SYSTABLES in the function ddopen
000 Aug 26 04:00:00 Failed to open database C:\WINNT\system32 in the function Main
200 Aug 26 04:00:00 Database Monitor on C:\WINNT\system32 exiting due to error (pid 1820)
100 Aug 26 04:01:22 Job "C:\Program Files\Thunderstone Software\Webinator\texis.exe" -sched iscmdln profile=Intranet_Testsite what=sched "c:\program files\apache group\apache\htdocs\webinator\dowalk/dispatch.txt" returned exit code 1
200 Aug 26 04:02:45 Contacting license server
006 Aug 26 04:03:08 Can't send data to ls.thunderstone.com:80 in the function htbuf_flushnblk
000 Aug 26 04:03:08 Could not contact license server
200 Aug 26 04:09:15 Texis Monitor version 04.00.1016233329 starting (pid 1556)
200 Aug 26 04:09:15 Starting Dispatcher in the function SVmain
015 Aug 26 04:09:15 Texis Monitor pid 1520 already running (pid 1556)
200 Aug 26 04:09:15 Texis Monitor exiting due to error (pid 1556)

Something else I recognized, maybe this has to do with the other problem. It seems that Webinator couldn't connect to the license-server.
monitor.log:
200 Aug 26 04:18:12 Contacting license server
006 Aug 26 04:18:35 Can't send data to ls.thunderstone.com:80 in the function htbuf_flushnblk
000 Aug 26 04:18:35 Could not contact license server

This happens every 15 minute. And yes, it's a commercial version we bought ... ;-)

The files license.did end liceens.key are in the Webinator-directory.
I tried to ping to server, this works. Has something else changed at the license-server? Because we have an "older" version (Webinator 4.2, purchased March 2002).

Thanks for advice,
Roger

... could the problem with the license-server have effects on the "rewalk on schedule"-problem? I get still the log-messages about the problems with "SYSTABLES in the function ddopen" (see above).

Rewalk on schedule doesn't work

Post by markell »

No, I haven't changed the dowalk-script, or just replaced with the newest one on the homepage (because of an other problem).
Do I have to change something in the dowalk-script? If yes, what do I have to do if I have two profiles? I guess both would use this dowalk-script (right?).

The data directory for "Intranet_Testsite" is the default one, "C:\Program Files\Thunderstone Software\Webinator/texis/default"

You mention replacing dowalk with the one from the website. You didn't try to install a version 5 script did you? You need version 4 scripts from http://www.thunderstone.com/texis/site/ ... ample.html

You shouldn't have to modify dowalk unless you've made customizations you want to keep. One dowalk script manages all of the profiles.

Yes, I took the script from that webpage, not a version 5 one.

As I understood from Johns respond, the "Rewalk on schedule" doesn't find the database in the specific (in my case the current) directory. Could or do I have to configure the location of the database somewhere?

And, is there a difference between the manually started dowalk-script and the one on schedule?

texis -ls :
Next run Schedule Script
-------------------------------------------------
in 16h 9m daily at 4 ...\webinator\dowalk/dispatch.txt
in 17h 9m daily at 5 ...\webinator\dowalk/dispatch.txt
<H6 ALIGN=right><A HREF="http://www.thunderstone.com/" TARGET="_top"><IMG SRC="/copy.gif" BORDER=0 WIDTH=304 HEIGHT=11 ALIGN=top ALT="Texis & Webinator Copyright (C) 2002 THUNDERSTONE - EPI, Inc."></A></H6>

This seems to be okay, right?

But, I do not find the file texis.cnf in that directory, or even on the computer. So, I guess we've found the problem ... and, I'm (pretty) sure that I haven't deleted it (as every user says ;-) ).
I installed Webinator first on a test-computer and even there is no config-file. A problem I had during the installation was that Webinator "told" it's running on a UNIX-system (that’s the reason I had to update the two scripts). Maybe that’s a reason of the missing config-file ... ???

What's the best way to create/get a proper config-file? ... please don't tell I have to reinstall Webinator :-)

If webinator running on windows says it's on unix you can force it correct by editing dowalk in the osinfo function. Change
<rex "winnt" $version>
<if "" neq $ret>
<$isnt=1><$pathseprex = "[/\\]">
<else><!-- otherwise Unix -->
<$isnt=0><$pathseprex = "/">
</if>
to
<$isnt=1><$pathseprex = "[/\\]">
