Error 80004005 while installing on Win Server 2003

0x80004005 is installshield's "unspecified error" (Thanks Installshield!).

Have you done anything with assigning special locations for home directories / "My Documents" folders? Those have caused problems for people: http://community.installshield.com/show ... ostcount=7 Are there other common path-based environment variables (like %TMP%/%TEMP%, %windir%, etc) that don't resolve properly?

--------------------
Barring that, it looks like moving away Installshield's metatada directory can also help.

1. Search for the InstallShield folder (by default, the full path is C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield).
2. In the search results, right-click the InstallShield folder, choose Rename, type InstallShieldOld, and press Enter.
3. Close all open programs.
4. Try installing Webinator again.
5. If the problem persists, search for the InstallShield folder again (refer to Step 1 for instructions).
6. In the search results, right-click the InstallShield folder and choose Delete. Click Yes or OK to confirm the deletion.
7. Now search for the InstallShieldOld folder. Once located, right-click it, choose Rename, type InstallShield, and press Enter.
8. Install Webinator.

I haven't done anything special with locations and all of the environment variables seem to resolve to real places.

I tried renaming the Installshield metadata dir. The Webinator install created a new one and failed just the same. I deleted that new one and put the old one back. Same failure.

This is a brand-new server: just came out of its box today and I installed Windows 2003 Server on it today. I must be something about this box, because I tried the install on another machine and it started up just fine.

Any other ideas?

Found a little more information: "5006 tells us that the necessary support files for the setup are failing to be installed to the support directory."

according to http://community.installshield.com/show ... 0x80004005 launching it from the "Add new Programs" dialog may fix it.

Please try this:
1. Open My Computer -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs
2. Click on the "Add New Programs" button on the left.
3. Click on the "CD or Floppy" button.
4. In the dialog that opens, click "Next" to let Windows try to find the executable from the CD or floppy (it won't, because it's not named "setup.exe")
5. When it's done looking, hit "Browse" to find the location of the installer (You'll have to change the file types to show "All Files", otherwise it will only show files named "setup.exe").
6. With your installer selected, hit "Finish" to launch it.
