Thunderstone support:
Please help. I've a problem that is getting to be a seriously
discouraging issue in my continued use of Webinator.
I've used Webinator 1.3 on my SCO platform for some 4-5 months. I have
my sites re-walked every morning. To enable the generated database to
reflect my sites' connections to the outside world, I have the '-o'
switch set so that gw incorporates a single page for each off-site link.
Every once in a while gw would abort during its morning re-walk. This is
now happening nearly every day, and sometimes 2-3 times a day when I
repeatedly try to re-walk the site after finding it had aborted during
the night. All re-walk attempts are set up to generate a whole new
database that I use to replace the old database if the re-walk is
successful.
The links that gw is dying on vary, it even varies within a 15 minute
period from one re-walk attempt to the next. The only common thread that
I've found is that the links are on valid hosts that for some reason
(often temporary, since a re-walk 10 minutes later will work perfectly
well) is not currently reachable when gw is attempting to retrieve the
link. A couple sites have been more prone to this than others, so for
those sites I tried adding a '-xhttp://error-prone-site/' to my gw
options list, but this seems to have NO effect - ie gw still occasionally
curls up and dies while attempting to retrieve that 'error-prone-site'
link.
Is there some gw setting that can help me get gw to walk my site without
dying so often?
Also, I noticed that you have a later version of Webinator out (version
2, I think). But only for the platforms bsdi, decalpha, linuxelf,
solaris, and winnt. Is there any plans to port Webinator 2 to the SCO
platform and any scheduled date for this SCO release?
TIA, Layne
