Best Bets

Post by mmcfadden »

I am looking at purchasing the Best Bets plug/in. I am not sure exactly what the capability is by reading the Webinator manual. It sounds like I would just log into the admin site and with List/edit urls assign keywords.

I have 5000 documents in my collection and I would like to set a preference to 2000 premier documents in this collection. I would like the 2000 identified documents to automatically be ranked higher than the other 3000 documents. I want to be able to do this without using meta tags or by manually assigning keywords to documents. I also don't want to have to create a synonyms file or custom thesaurus. In other words I don't want to have to guess what a user will search on because this is difficult to guess. Is it this possible to use Best Bets in this manner?

No. What I would suggest for that case, since you are using Webinator and have the scripts, would be to override the current definition of either the Pop or CTR fields, and then in the search take then in the search script order by that field. If the documents can be identified programatically be the crawler it would be fairly straightforward.
