Question:

1. Do search engines us my webinator search engine to index?

2. Are there robots that look for search engines like webinator and spam them?

3. Are there individuals to deliberately spam webinator?

I find it hard to believe I am getting 10,000 searches in a day. This error is happening regularly.

I understand that there have been 10,000 searches on my website within a 24 hour period. I get this message:

1. no
2 & 3. Not that I'm aware of.

If you don't use robots.txt on your server to prevent robots from crawling webinator searches and have a link for a canned webinator search on your site somewhere a robot could start crawling your search. In similar circumstance you could even have Webinator crawl it's own search.

Ultimately you need to look at your web access logs to see where the hits are coming from.

Hi,

thanks I updated my robots.txt to include this:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /cgi-bin/texis/webinator/search4/?pr=default
Disallow: /cgi-bin/texis/webinator/search4/?pr=history
Disallow: /cgi-bin/texis/webinator/search4/?pr=default
Disallow: /cgi-bin/texis/webinator/search4/?pr=islam

I will see if it makes a difference and I will tail my access logs too

thanks
