gw.log

Post by Thunderstone »

Please, why the subject file has not been updated when I recreate all
the database? I have used the sequence: gw -wipe, gw -unindex, gw URL,
gw -index e I haven´t seen, in gw.log, the new walking.
Regards, John.

I'm not sure what you are asking. There is no "subject" file.
-wipe does not recreate every file in the database, just the
data tables. The gw.log file is not erased. Each use of gw is
logged appended the end of the log file.

The gw.log file continues to grow in size (it's 4MB), so I gather that it
is an ongoing log. My questions:

Can the gw.log file (in the db directory) be safely deleted, and upon
deletion will a new log automatically be created when running gw next
time (I run it each night using a simple cron automatically)?

Is there any practical purpose to keeping this log, or extract some of its
contents to conserve space?

Rick

Yes on all points.

It just lets you know what has been done. It logs options used,
urls visited, and errors. If you don't need any of that info, you
can discard it.
