hit markup, mminfo and proximities

Post by mark »

I often use ^A (\x01) when I want an unusual character. \x7f might also be a good candidate.

Thanks again John, Kai and Mark -- thanks to you I got through this stage of development in about half the time we planned. Splitting on tags and replacing with a low ASCII character (for now using \x01) allows us to hit highlight third party HTML documents from a wide variety of sources without the tags interfering with phrases or proximities. You basically split, replace, join, highlight, split again, and replace and join again. Vortex is fast enough that it's virtually instantaneous to user. I can provide details for anyone who needs them.
