Index creation taking more time after migration to Linux

Post by Priti Barapatre »

Hi John/Kai,

I am from SupportCentral Team. We have recently migrated from Sun Solaris to Linux Server for one of our search functionality. We are observing that the index creation on Linux is taking a lot of time than on Solaris. The execution time for this script was 45 min on Solaris server and is increased now till 2.5 hours on Linux. Could you please suggest what should be causing this and how we can speed up this script on Linux?

We are using following Texis versions

For Solaris: Version 5.01.1249359916 20090804 (sparc-sun-solaris2.8-64-64)
RAM on Solaris: 32 GB

For Linux: Version 5.01.1262857672 20100107 (x86_64-unknown-linux2.6.9-64-64)
RAM on Linux: 256 GB

Thanks & Regards,
Priti

There are several factors that may come into play, including any other settings you have, and the overall system performance, including CPU and filesystem. We have generally seen index creation be proportional to CPU performance, although that does not sound likely for a factor of 3 change in performance.

It is probably best to open a support ticket so we can diagnose in more depth than the public message board.
