Appliance update: texisScripts-18.0.0, applianceman-18.0.0

Post by Kai »

Two new appliance update are now available: texisScripts-18.0.0 and applianceman-18.0.0. The latter is a documentation update for the former.

In brief, texisScripts-18.0.0 provides:

* A new Bias setting for meta search target profiles, allowing results to be biased up or down in relevance-ranked searches based on target profile

* Canonical URL support

* Caveat: URL-exclusion rules now apply to previously-crawled URLs during Refresh; see below

* Security config and other fixes

Details for texisScripts-18.0.0:

* URLs being excluded due to being cleaned (Index Name, Ignore Query Vars, etc) are now logged as errors with high verbosity

* Removed interface for making individual Best Bets in metasearch profiles (which have no effect)

* Fixed Walk Delay not allowing decimal values

* Critical database errors no longer cause the admin interface to become unusable

* Fixed restoring multiple profiles using parametric fields of the same name

* Clarified Invalid URL: spaces translated ... error, and try to show ref

* Fixed categories added from List/Edit URLs not being visible by default

* Fixed HTML tags showing in messages when creating categories from the List/Edit URLs page

* Fixed GroupBy not properly estimating counts with a large number of results

* Multiple data dirs (if mounted, on custom installations) now supported when creating profiles: one with most space free used

* New System Wide Settings setting Honor Cipher Order added (where supported): tells appliance HTTPS server to maintain HTTPS/SSL Ciphers order rather than negotiate with client

* New Meta search setting Bias added, allowing search results ranking to be weighted based on target profile

* robots.txt rules are now always retained. If a rule excludes a Base URL, a warning is issued, but the rule and the Base URL are both retained. (Previously, such rules were tossed.)

* URL-rejection rules are now always enforced against crawled URLs (except Base URLs). (Previously, already-crawled URLs during a Refresh were not checked.) Thus, some Refresh crawls might now start to exclude or remove (non-Base) URLs that were previously indexed.

* Make Pages linking to/from URL now clickable in List/Edit URLs

* An AJAX-crawlable-URLs compatible URL with <meta name="fragment" content="!"> could cause later pages' relative links to appear to be relative to it, causing erroneous links and not-found errors

* Canonical URLs now supported (<link rel="canonical" href="...">)

* Reduced default Maximum Refresh Time to 1 week, default Default Refresh Time to 1 minute to force content to update in a more timely manner

These updates are available via the System -> System Setup -> Update Software menu item.
