top and bottom.html

Post by Thunderstone »

To whom it may concern:

Is it possible to change the top.html and bottom.html to SSI files like:
top.shtml and bottom.shtml?

The reason I ask, is so that it can include advertising banners at the top using the SSI function. This isn't possible with regular .html files.

Please let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks.

How do I edit the look and feel from inside the search script. And if I do,
doesnt' that effect sites with multiple databases?

The scripting language is powerful. It can do just about anything
you can think up. If you have multiple DBs on a site you could just
switch the look and feel based on which DB is active.

Just edit the file ~/htdocs/webinator/search (or better yet a copy of it)

See the Vortex manual at http://www.thunderstone.com/vortexman/
for more details on the language.

You can "template-ize" the interface, as we've done here. Check out
http://search.nyu.edu/. This is our main web page. We want to give
subsites the ability to customize their own search pages, though. So I've
written in some trivial hooks to limit URL, and to apply a custom header,
footer and button to the results page. Some other features I've toyed
with are at http://search.nyu.edu/cgi-bin/texis/_search/ These include a)
full results or brief results; b) results per page; and c) a "watch others
search" listing under the search bar. This is essentially the most recent
five searches at NYU Search for the voyeurs out there. :-)
