New York City store locks up Spam in plastic case amid crime spike

New York City shoppers expressed disbelief when they encountered cans of Spam locked up behind plastic barriers as crime and inflation spike in the city.

The one-two punch of inflation and rising crime has caused at least one New York City store to lock up its inventory of Spam in a plastic case.

Shoppers, store employees, and social media users expressed disbelief after discovering the $3.99 canned meat product out of reach behind lock and key at a Duane Reade inside New York City’s Port Authority bus depot, the New York Post reported.

"I’ve never seen that before!" one cashier laughed while removing the Spam from its plastic anti-theft covering.

"Some of these things are pretty ridiculous," said Jenny Kenny, a 43-year-old visiting town from Kentucky who says she was aware of the crime spike in the city but still couldn’t believe there were "so many" items in boxes.

NYPD OFFICER OF 40 YEARS: I'VE NEVER SEEN NYC CRIME AS BAD AS IT IS RIGHT NOW

Other shoppers wondered why Spam, along with $1.89 cans of Starkist tuna, were locked up while more expensive products like $5.49 cans of Amy’s soup were not.

"To put Spam in a cage is stupid — and kind of insulting to the customers that would buy it," 46-year-old shopper Dennis Snow said.

CRIME TIPPING POINT: NYC BODEGA CASE COULD SPARK CRACKDOWN ON VIOLENT CRIMINALS

<a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/new-york-cit ...
Virginia woman discovers snake inside bag of popcorn at grocery store

A Virginia woman shopping at a grocery store found herself face to face with a snake inside a bag of popcorn that she says ended up being as long as her grocery cart.

A Virginia woman's trip to the grocery store took an unexpected turn on Thursday when she was startled by a snake in her shopping cart.

Kimberly Slaughter was inside a Shoppers Value store in Lunenburg County, Virginia when she saw what she believed to be mouse feces inside of her shopping cart, WTVR reported.

"I was like, I'm not getting that bag," Slaughter told the news outlet. "So I put it on the bottom shelf because there was already mouse poop covering the bottom shelves."

Slaughter, who said she noticed rodent traps on the bottom shelf, went to grab another grab of popcorn and saw that it had a small hole in the top right corner.

PENNSYLVANIA MAN DIES AFTER BEING SUFFOCATED BY PET BOA CONSTRICTOR THAT WAS SHOT BY POLICE

When Slaughter went to put the bag in her cart to take up to the front because it couldn’t be sold, she discovered a snake inside.

"The thing had popped out, and you know, I was like, oh, well, hi!" Slaughter said.

She explained that when she brought the cart to the front of the store the snake emerged from the bag and slithered around before returning inside the bag.

CALIFORNIA CBP OFFICERS FIND 52 REPTILES HIDDEN IN MAN'S CLOTHING

"It was the full length of the cart," Slaughter, who says friends told her she encountered a rat snake, said. "It had prime real estate though."

Slaughter, who has a baby at home, told the outlet she worries about what would have happened if the snake had made it back home with her.

"I have a baby, and he is just starting to walk," Slaughter said. "So imagine if he was a little bit older, or if my niece had gone and been like, 'hey, I want some popcorn' and grabbed that bag and it bit her. It's not safe. It's not healthy."

The store manager, Brian Stanley, said the store is investigating.

"We have no idea where it came from," Stanley said. "We are investigating trying to find out where it came from, but we have no other indication that there could be any others."

FBI won't give up effort to solve the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa

The FBI is committed to finally solving the nearly five decade old mystery of the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa.

The latest search at a site in Jersey City, New Jersey early last month came up empty, but its undertaking shows the dedication and determination of the bureau to solve the iconic case that started when the legendary labor leader vanished in Detroit 47 years ago today. He was believed to be on his way to a meeting with two top Detroit and New Jersey Mobsters.

The two original FBI suspects who are still alive declined to talk to me about what happened. No one has ever been charged.

There are also two major competing theories about Hoffa's fate. After he was killed by mobsters in Detroit, his body was either taken the Central Sanitation facility in nearby Hamtramck and incinerated, or his remains were transported to New Jersey and buried there.

"He was most likely incinerated and there is no body and we have been running around for fifty years looking for a body that doesn't exist," says Detroit crime investigator Scott Burnstein, who has covered the case for decades and runs the website

Gangstereport.com and hosts the Original Gangsters podcast.

FBI SAYS JIMMY HOFFA'S REMAINS NOT BURIED UNDER NEW JERSEY'S PULASKI SKYWAY; DECADES-OLD MYSTERY CONTINUES

Burnstein says the Detroit crime family was more than capable of handling the Hoffa hit on its own.

"This is a family in Detroit that has a PHD in Mafia murder. No member of this crime family has been indicted nor convicted of a homicide in almost 100 years. This is a group that knows what they are doing, which is why they were tasked with getting rid of Hoffa and they did it to the best of their ability and frankly, they didn't need any help."

The latest FBI search last month came from a tip that was part of the Fox News and Fox Nation investigation and our ongoing series about the case, "Riddle, The Search for James R. Hoffa."

Paul Cappola, Jr., a Tampa, Florida based lawyer was watching the Fox News Channel on a Sunday in 2019, as he regularly does. But an update on the "Riddle" investigation stopped him cold, and he knew he had to get his brother, Frank, to tell the story that had been in their family for decades.

FOX NATION REVEALS JIMMY HOFFA COULD BE BURIED UNDER NJ BRIDGE AS SEARCH CONTINUES

The story is this: Paul and Frank's father, Paul Cappola, Sr., co-owned a mob connected waste dump under the elevated Pulaski Skyway in Jersey City, New Jersey, the PJP Landfill. Their father was a businessman...but his partner was Genovese Crime Family mobster Phil Moscato, Sr., known to all as "Brother." That is why the 87 toxic waste site was commonly known as "Moscato's dump."

Frank said that his father buried Hoffa in a barrel, 12 feet down, after it was delivered to the dump a few days after Hoffa vanished. He said that his Dad felt badly about it all of his life, but had no choice because if he did not bury Hoffa, he would have been killed by the mobsters.

In 2019, Fox Nation contracted Ground Penetrating Radar Systems to conduct a ground penetrating radar survey of the spot. The radio waves detected multiple large round pieces of buried mental, shaped like drums, exactly where Frank said that his father buried Hoffa.

It is against the law for Fox Nation to dig at the site.

Author Dan Moldea collaborated with our effort and worked extensively with Fox News and Fox Nation in our joint exclusive investigation.

In October last year agents from the Detroit FBI office, which is in charge of the case, and the Newark office visited the site to conduct ground tests and in early June searched the site but came up empty.

The son of the dump's other owner, Genovese Crime Family mobster Phil "Brother" Moscato, says however, that while Hoffa's body was brought to New Jersey as Frank said, his father then moved the body elsewhere after the FBI was told by a mob informant in 1975 that Hoffa probably was buried at the dump.

Moscato, Jr. has not publicly revealed the location, saying that he wants to ensure the integrity of his claim.

The two FBI Hoffa suspects who still alive both live in New Jersey, one not far from the old Moscato's dump. Gabe Briguglio and Stephen Andretta appeared before the grand jury investigating Hoffa's disappearance in Detroit in 1975 and have kept quiet ever since. Both did not wish to comment when I have met them.

JIMMY HOFFA MYSTERIES: A LOOK AT THEORIES AS FBI INVESTIGATES POSSIBLE LEAD

The FBI will not give up in its attempts to finally solve nearly five decade old mystery.

"There is nobody more invested in putting this thing do bed than the FBI," says Burnstein. "They want all the loose ends tied up. So the idea that they would not exhaust every remedy available to them to do that ,is an incorrect inaccurate posture and I have faith that the FBI did what they were supposed to do and the case now points back to Detroit."

Jimmy Hoffa's family, his daughter Barbara Crancer, a retired St. Louis Judge who is now in her 80's and son James P. Hoffa, the retired president of the Teamsters, await more evidence and the final clues that could bring them, and the nation, some answers after all these years.

"We do not currently anticipate any additional activity at the site," said Special Agent Mara Schneider, the spokesperson for the FBI Detroit office, about the Jersey City location. But she added that the bureau will not walk away from any credible information.

"The FBI will continue to pursue any viable lead in our efforts to locate Mr. Hoffa," she said.

Watch all five episodes of "Riddle: The Search for James R.
Missing Florida mom Erica Johnson disappears after boarding Cape Coral Greyhound bus bound for Tampa: Police

July 8 was the last anyone has seen or heard from a missing Florida woman who is believed to have boarded a Greyhound bus for a nonstop trip to Tampa, police have said.

Police in Florida are looking for a young mom who had disappeared after she was last seen getting off a bus during the early-morning hours in Cape Coral earlier this month.

Erica Johnson, 36, was photographed at a Southeast 47th Terrace bus stop in Cape Coral just before 5:30 a.m. on July 8, wearing jeans, sneakers, a baseball cap and a sweatshirt tied around her waist.

That same morning, she boarded a nonstop Greyhound bus in Fort Myers bound for Tampa, carrying a travel pillow, her bags and her bunny, the Cape Coral Police Department said earlier this week.

July 8 was the last anyone has seen or heard from her, police said.

FLORIDA TEEN DEAD AFTER FRIEND 'ACCIDENTALLY' SHOOTS HIM: POLICE

Johnson’s family reported her missing on July 14. Police said investigators had obtained information that caused them to upgrade her case to that of a "missing and endangered adult."

According to WINK News, Johnson had been exhibiting warning signs that something unusual was happening in the weeks that preceded her disappearance.

FLORIDA MAN ACCUSED OF BATTERING WIFE IS ARRESTED AFTER STEPSON SHOT HIM IN SELF-DEFENSE: POLICE

In one example, the news outlet reported that she had canceled plans with her ex-husband to see their children, saying she needed to work.

Investigators reportedly went to Johnson’s home and discovered her belongings still there, but she and her pet bunny were gone.

Police said Johnson has brown hair with blonde highlights and a small freckle "on the lower side of her face." She is 5-foot-8 inches tall, about 130 pounds and has green eyes.

They are asking anyone with information to call the Cape Coral Police Department at 239-574-3223.

Missouri woman acquitted of murder in teen daughter’s death after judge deliberates for nearly a month

Rebecca Ruud has been found not guilty of the July 2017 death of 16-year-old Savannah Leckie, whose remains were found in a burn pit on Ruud’s remote property.

A judge deliberated for 29 days before acquitting a southern Missouri woman of murder and two other felony charges in the death of the autistic teenage daughter that she gave up for adoption as a baby.

Greene County Circuit Court Judge Calvin Holden found Rebecca Ruud not guilty of first- and second-degree murder, tampering with evidence and felony abuse or neglect of a child but found her guilty on the remaining charge, illegally abandoning a corpse. The charges stemmed from the July 2017 death of 16-year-old Savannah Leckie, whose remains were found in a burn pit on Ruud’s remote property near the Arkansas-Missouri border.

According to the Law & Crime Network, Ruud had requested a bench trial instead of placing her fate in the hands of a jury. Closing arguments in the trial wrapped on June 30 and Holden returned a verdict on Friday – 29 days later, according to the report.

Ruud is scheduled to be sentenced on the last charge Sept. 15 by Holden, who heard the case instead of a jury in Springfield after a change of venue from Ozark County to the southwest. Ruud could get up to four years in prison.

<a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/st-louis-hit ... ST. LOUIS HIT BY MORE FLOODING LEADING TO RESCUES

Prosecutors described Savannah as the victim of severe abuse after she left her adoptive family in Minnesota and moved to Missouri to be with her biological mother. Ruud said the girl disappeared after running away because she blamed herself for starting a fire on the family’s property.

Attorney General Eric Schmitt’s office declined to comment about the judge’s decision. A public defender representing Ruud did not immediately respond to The Associated Press.

MISSOURI SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT HOSTS JUNIOR POLICE ACADEMY FOR MIDDLE SCHOOLERS

Ruud lived outside Theodosia, a village about 250 people roughly 45 miles east of Branson, a popular vacation destination. According to a probable cause statement filed along with the charges against Ruud in 2017, the girl’s adoptive mother asked Ruud to take her because Savannah did not get along with her adoptive mother’s fiancé.

PORTLAND POLICE CHIEF PLEADS WITH COMMUNITY TO STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST OFFICERS

Authorities said that after the girl moved to Missouri, she was home-schooled and had "almost no social contacts."

Ruud reported Savannah missing two days after the fire on the family’s remote property, authorities said. Several searches turned up human teeth, a meat grinder, a knife and 26 bottles of lye, which can be used to accelerate the breakdown of bodily tissue, according to court documents. Human bone fragments were found in a field about 400 yards (365 meters) from Ruud’s home, about two weeks after Savannah’s reported disappearance.

An ex-boyfriend of Ruud’s told investigators that he had seen her discipline Savannah by forcing the teen to crawl through a hog pen and making her bathe in a pond, authorities said. Ruud acknowledged that this was true and told investigators that when Savannah cut her arm "in a suicidal gesture," she forced the girl to scrub the wound daily with alcohol and salt as punishment.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

San Francisco's Black Cat jazz club vandalized, then looted by more than 20 thieves, report says

A San Francisco jazz club is reeling after someone shattered the front, glass entrance, which preceded an hours-long looting spree that reportedly lasted until 7 a.m.

A San Francisco jazz club was looted just hours after it was targeted by vandal earlier this week, according to a local affiliate report.

The first crime unfolded around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Black Cat San Francisco Jazz Club, located on Eddy Street in the Tenderloin, KTVU reported. A man was allegedly caught on video using a skateboard to the glass of the restaurant’s front door before rushing away.

Within hours, people began filing in for what Black Cat’s operations director, Adam Chapman, described as looking like a "free-for-all."

"I kinda feel violated a little bit, right?" he explained. "It's like your place, your space, this is like my second home. I'm here all the time."

SAN FRANCISCO ARMED ROBBERS TARGETING ROLEX, OTHER HIGH-END WATCHES, POLICE SAY

Chapman said over 20 people went into the club over the course of hours, and looted $25,000- to $50,000-worth of property, including food, alcohol, music instruments and equipment, according to KTVU. He said the club itself incurred no damage.

"That would have been catastrophic. We have a lot of like really nice things in here. You know they could have broken things, they could have spray-painted. Really it was just a cash grab," Chapman told KTVU.

SAN FRANCISCO CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM ROCKED BY ‘EARTHQUAKE’ UNDER NEW DA, ACTIVIST SAYS

An employee arrived around 7 a.m. to discover the pillaged aftermath.

A spokesperson for the San Francisco Police Department did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital, but Chapman was critical of the agency for its lack of a more thorough response to the crimes.

KTVU reported that cops arrived more than an hour after the initial crime occurred, after a witness called 911. The San Francisco Fire Department also responded, and briefly covered the damaged entryway.

Surveillance video obtained by KTVU shows police arrive and one officer shout from the front door: "SFPD. Come out with your hands up."

Police told the news station they tried multiple times to contact a business representative. The thefts continued even again after emergency personnel left.

"It's not like they have to secure it, but at least to not come back and check on it again is very disheartening," Chapman said.

The club reportedly plans to add additional and stronger security procedures. It has since created a GoFundMe page to recover from the crimes.

Re: XML Parsing question

Post by John »

I created a small test script that fetches the URL you provided, and uses the timport schema, and it did get both title and link. You may want to contact support directly and provide the version of Texis you are using. The attribute on the element shouldn't be a problem. There is also the XML API which depending on your usage may provide more flexibility, https://docs.thunderstone.com/site/vort ... l_api.html.
