The BSDI version will generally run on FreeBSD. We will have a native
FreeBSD version in a week or so.

What errors are you getting?

The error states that the file cannot be decompressed.

You have damaged the downloaded file somehow. Download it again and make
sure you save it in raw binary format. If you download to one machine then
transfer the file to another machine, make sure you transfer in binary mode.
