ERROR: bad system call : core dumped

Post by Thunderstone »

I downloaded and installed webinator. It seems like a great product. I
added one site to the database and it retrieved and indexed it fine. I was
also able to perform searches on this database and it performed as
expected. (And I was stoked because it was easy to use and it looks like
what we need!)

So I tried adding a bunch more web sites. I used the external list option.
It seems to like the configuration, but during the data collection process
it dies with:

---------------------------
http://www.sound-ring.com/

Bad system call (core dumped)
--------------------------

This happened the first time I installed webinator and then subsequently I
was unable to perform any commands (even gw -wipe). I also could not
perform any searches. I looked into the httpd error log and it gave an
error of "partial script headers" or something like that. So I manually
deleted everything and reinstalled because I figured while I was stumbling
around to configure the thing initially I must have done something it
didn't like.

So after a complete reinstall, I got the same error (bad system call).
Searches seem to be kind of working now though they return hits, but it
doesn't seem to match what you're searching for. What's weird though is
that when I do searches, it seems to always return the same list
(regardless of what I search on) and each site is ranked 100% according to
that ranking bar. Another clue might be that the bottom of each results
page reads:
Hits 1-10 Hits 21-0
^^^
This is wrong. I don't know if it's relevant to the
problem at hand.

Now any command I type yields the bad system call error:

Example:

% ./gw http://wavcentral.simplenet.com
No database specified. Use the default (/usr/local/www/data/webinator/db)?
(y/n) default is y : y
You may use "-d-" to skip this question in the future.
Bad system call (core dumped)

Also the search interface is now broken. You can try it out at:
http://198.202.72.4/cgi-bin/texis/webinator/search/

When I look at the httpd error log I see:
[Sun Dec 14 13:30:08 1997] access to /usr/local/www/cgi-bin/texis failed
for dt0
21n8b.san.rr.com, reason: Premature end of script headers

Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm using the default search interface with no changes to it. I will add
that I installed it under FreeBSD current.
