006 Can't write to ...:80: Broken pipe

Post by Thunderstone »

Greetings,

I've been using webinator for a while now, but hit an error today that I
can't figure out. When I try to index a particular site, I get the following:

006 Can't write to freespace.virgin.net:80: Broken pipe

I've successfully indexed this site before with *exactly* the same options,
and I'm still successfully indexing other sites, despite the sudden problem
with this one.

Here's what happened on the command line:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
/usr/home/kumquat/www/webinator/bin: gw -d- -O -Iindex.html
-jhttp://freespace.
virgin.net/chris.lawson/rk/ http://freespace.virgin.net/chris.lawson/rk/
Getting http://194.168.4.100/robots.txt...Not there...Ok.
Adding todo: http://freespace.virgin.net/chris.lawson/rk/
http://freespace.virgin.net/chris.lawson/rk/
0/0
006 Can't write to freespace.virgin.net:80: Broken pipe
0/0
Visited 1 pages total
Indexing new pages
/usr/home/kumquat/www/webinator/bin:
------------------------------------------------------------------------

And here's what was written to the log file:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
1999/08/30 16:18:32 Begin (5584) gw -d- -O -Iindex.html
-jhttp://freespace.virgin.net/chris.lawson/rk/
http://freespace.virgin.net/chris.lawson/rk/
1999/08/30 16:18:32 Retrieving http://freespace.virgin.net/chris.lawson/rk/
1999/08/30 16:18:32 Can't write to freespace.virgin.net:80: Broken pipe
1999/08/30 16:18:32 End (5584) Visited 1 pages total
1999/08/30 16:18:32 Begin (5584) Indexing new pages
1999/08/30 16:18:32 End (5584)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Brian

This means the same thing as "Connection refused" (since it happens at
connection start). Some Webinator versions report it as "Broken pipe"
instead. The server is down or refusing connections.
