webinator 2.6.915731857

Post by rt061073 »

We purchased a website using texis webinator version 2.6.915731857. I am an ASP programmer/MS SQL developer and have no idea how webinator works and can't seem to find any documentation on this version.

The site we purchased uses Cold Fusion and SQL Server.

Questions:
1. when I search it retrieves .cfm, .html and even database entries (example: thispage.cfm?id=100). Is it capable of searching databases and building HREF strings based on results?

2. We've added a couple of records in the database but the search does not retrieve this. Why? How do I reinitialize the engine? How do I reindex?

3. I would like to link our newly purchased site to another site that we own. Where can I find documentation on how to do this? Is this possible?

Help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

For the docs follow the bouncing ball:
thunderstone->products->webinator->tech support->webinator 2.5->gw documentation
or, more directly:
http://www.thunderstone.com/site/gw25man/gw2.html

1. Webinator indexes whatever pages a webserver presents. Webinator's terms of use, however, don't allow using it to provide a search of a different database. You would need a full Texis license for something like that. ( http://www.thunderstone.com/texis/site/ ... mmlic.html )

2. gw -index

3. We don't provide website management consulting. Perhaps your ISP or website hoster does.

Thanks Mark!

What I meant by #3 was: Is it possible to use the webinator to index another site so that when I search on site A, it will also show results from Site B.

Yes, just supply the starting urls of all the sites you want to index.
