error after install: 000 License violation: License Server Contact

Hi,

i installed the free version of Webinator 4.0 on a Win 2000 server, that will become the staging/live server for an Obtree CMS.

Since we have not recieved the final words from Obtree about the future bundling of webinator with Obtree, we decided to install the free version until we got the licenses solved (so we could start developing and customizing webinator).

However this server is protected from internet, so there is no access out on the internet (yet).

I recon this is why i get the error:

WebEngine error: Page not found!

when i try to run Webinator for the first time:

http://localhost/SCRIPTS/texis.exe/Webinator/dowalk

If i run webinator from the commandline i get the error i mentioned in the subject:

D:\webinator>gw -d- -st "select * from SYSTABLES"
000 License violation: License Server Contact

I guess this is because there is no internet connection???

Is there a way to get Webinator running until we get the license?

We really need to start developing and customizing Webinator.

thanx!

Correct, that's your problem, free webinator requires internet access.
You could perhaps temporarily put it on a machine with internet access, or open an outbound path on that machine to thunderstone.com

Hi Doran,

what specific ports (and if possible what IP) needs to be opened to communicate with Thunderstone?

I am getting the same error message, but I am most definately connected to the internet via port 80.

I currently have Webinator up and running on our site, and people from the other end of the world have successfully been able to search the site.

The monitor.log file also indicates that the licence server has been succesfully contacted.

I installed the free version of Webinator on an NT server. I was able to set it up and customise it with nominal efforts -- this was in late Nov 2001. In early December I discovered that I could no longer access our search pages and an error page was there instead -- the 000 Error Message: Licence Server Contact

I reviewed the monitor file and this error had been occuring repeatedly for some time before Webinator began disallowing access.

I could not determine the problem and was unable to access the admin pages -- the link take syou to the same error message -- so I comepletly reinstalled the software. It is running again, but I am still getting the error messages in the monitor.log file.

I know it is just a matter of time before I can't access search again.
HELP! Any thoughts?

Ok, you have inbound access to port 80. What about outbound though? From the machine running webinator, can you access http://ls.thunderstone.com directly (without using a proxy)? That's what Webinator needs to do.

hi folks,

i encountered the same problem than anders rask does. The Obtree C3 installation on a NT4 Server can not
communicate with Port 80. It has to use Port 81.
To customize that i have to buy a full version. To buy
a full version i have to test the demo. To test the
demo i have to use Port 81, ....

Without testing the Webinators functionality the demo is obsolete, but buying to get a licence key also ..

How to handle that problem ?

Is Obtree preventing the contact to our webserver on port 80? We don't have a webserver on port 81. You can crawl a website on port 81 with the free version just as effectively as if it was on port 80.

Hi John,

not Obtree is preventing me from using Port 80, it's the
customers proxy / firewall. This proxy is configured to use Port 81 instead of port 80 (http).
To communicate with ls.thunderstorm.com, the demoversion has to use port 81, or to work without ls.thunderstorm.com contact.
There is no other chance, its policy. Plse anwer asap, we urgently need a descicion.

You would need to contact sales to sort something out, as it appears there isn't a technical solution possible. The easiest solution would probably be to order the product and if it doesn't do what you need take advantage of the 30-day return policy.
