In the manual under "set logic", it indicates that a ~ preceeding a term will invoke concept expansion using the thesaurus. In the metamorph section it says that the ~ will root the word and eclude equivalences. This seems contradictory. What happens when I use the ~ as follows:

where $field like '~battery'

In the old standalone metamorph program or in the metamorph api using default apicp settings equivs are on by default so ~ will turn them off.

In texis equivs are off by default so ~ will turn them on.
