Can't resolve host `localhost': Host not found

Post by jmora2 »

I am installing WEBINATOR OVER WIN2K and Apache 1.3.28 Server and I am confronting this problem. I have already downloaded and installed the latest search, dowalk and webinatoradmin from your site as of today.
Any clue about my problem. I used to run an older version of webinator over apache without any problem as late as 2002, but due to a disk failure I had to reinstalled new webinator 4.3.8 for windows.

Try going to all walk settings and and setting dns mode to system.

If the problem continues it indicates that the machine (or at least CGI programs) can not access DNS to lookup the name localhost or DNS is not working.

BTW, you wouldn't generally index localhost unless the user logged into the server is the only one that would ever use the search. Remote users doing a search would get sent to localhost (their own machine) for result pages instead of the server where they reside. You would generally walk a server using the public name that everyone can use to access the server.

This is my case. I am running webinator for my private use. Not for outsiders. Previous webinators allow me to do just that.

Well, I tried all walks setting and IT DID NOT WORKED, however, your input was very key to generate a clue that cause webinator to failed.

Instead of using http://localhost/ and based upon your comments of what this things does, y changed the localhost to http://127.0.0.1 and BINGO. It running. I will report later of the finding as soon I finished indexing.

Thank again my friend. Almost a year without giving you headaches....

Thank a lot, and since sharing is critical, I am doing my part.

http://127.0.0.1 instead of http://localhost solved my problem. The Webinator runned without any problem, using the lattes dowalk and webinatoradmin publish in your site.
Thanks for your support.
