Proximity Buffer Size

When using three or more terms with a proximity requirment such as:

word1 word2 word3 w/24

is the maximum proximity distance possible between the two end words 24 characters or 48 characters? Or are there cases where Texis would allow either?

It will be within 24 characters before or after the first word searched for, not necessarily the first or last word in the text.

So if the text is constructed where the word order is word1...word2...word3 and each word is at but within the 24 character buffer limit of the other, are you saying then that if Texis searches for word2 first, then the distance between word1 and word3 would be 48 characters max for a hit? But then are you also saying the if Texis searches for word1 first Texis won't find the hit because the proximity of word1 to word3 is in excess of 24 characters?

Please see the discussions in the manual at the link mentioned above. Then post back here if you're still unclear.
