Installing 5.0 - can't get license, error code 1

Post by tech14 »

Hello,

Fedora Core 1, install 5.0, I'm getting these errors in vortex.log:

100 2004-05-24 11:57:50 Texis Monitor process child returned exit code 1
011 2004-05-24 11:57:53 Texis Monitor process failed to create license segment
000 2004-05-24 11:57:53 Cannot get config settings

When I try to install it, I get this:

[root@server webinator]# sh ./install
===============================================================================
Webinator Version 5.00 Installation v1.84
===============================================================================

Checking install script...Ok
If you already have full Texis or an older version of Webinator installed
you should read the upgrade notes.

------------------------------ NOTE: ---------------------------------
This installation should preferably be run as the user that will
actually run the software, not as root. The user should be the same
user that your web server runs CGI programs as. For this installation
you should have permission to place and move files in the install
directory and the web server tree.

You appear to be root. What (non-privileged) user will be running the
software? Webinator files will be owned and setuid to this user. Either:
o Enter the CGI user below, or
o Enter "none" to skip the chown (YOU will have to do it later), or
o Press Ctrl-C/Del to quit, and re-start install as the CGI user.

Web user [ENTER for apache]:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
What directory would you like to install Webinator in? Webinator
executables and other files will be placed under here. It should be
OUTSIDE (inaccessible to) your web server tree. NOTE: This directory
should be /usr/local/morph3 unless you are unable to install there.

Install dir [ENTER for /usr/local/morph3]: /www/webinator
Directory /www/webinator does not exist.
Shall I create it (y/n)? [ENTER for y]:
Directory /www/webinator created.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Where is your web server's CGI directory? This is the full path to
the file system (*not* URL) directory on this machine containing your
CGI programs. Usually this is under the top directory for the web
server. For Apache servers, it is probably the second argument to
ScriptAlias in your conf file.

This installation will install some programs (symlinks) in the CGI
directory you specify. Programs there must be executable by the web
server. The install will verify this with a web fetch.

CGI dir [ENTER for /var/www/cgi-bin]:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
What is the prefix for CGI URLs (the part of the URL before the program)?
o You may enter a URL, such as http://server.khouse.org/cgi-bin
if your site uses virtual hosts or a port other than 80. The site
must reside on this machine (the one running the install).
o Or you can enter just a URL path such as /cgi-bin (assumes host above)
o Or enter /newdir to start over with a new CGI directory instead.

CGI URL prefix [ENTER for http://server.khouse.org/cgi-bin]:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
What is the extension for CGI URLs (the filename extension of the program)?
This may be .cgi if your CGI programs are named like "mysearch.cgi" in URLs.
Or it may be "none" if you have a dedicated CGI dir and URL instead.

CGI extension [ENTER for none]:

--------------------------------------------------------------------
A copy of an existing Texis is already present in the CGI directory:
/var/www/cgi-bin/texis
100 Texis Monitor process child returned exit code 1 011 Texis Monitor process failed to create license segment 000 Cannot get config settings

Is it ok to replace this copy with Webinator?
o Answer "y" if it is not currently in use (it will be renamed).
o Answer "n" if it is in active use and you wish to preserve it.
An alternate, TEMPORARY name will be used instead.
YOU will have to rename it soon after testing this installation.

Replace /var/www/cgi-bin/texis (y/n)? y
Backing up existing /var/www/cgi-bin/texis to /var/www/cgi-bin/texis-old
Stopping monitor processes.....done
Checking dir with a web fetch...failed, will try again
Trying again with file...Ok
Verifying version...*** Failed ***
The Texis Monitor process failed to start, returning exit code 1.
View web server reply (y/n)? [ENTER for n]:

And then it loops. Any suggestions?

It can't create/connect to it's shared mem segment. Perhaps you have SYSV IPC turned off in your kernel or your old version of webinator was running as different user to the new one can't use the old one's shared mem due to permission problems. Use ipcs to see what shared mems there and the ownerships. If /var/www/cgi-bin/texis-old is from a previously working Webinator install see what user it was running as. Install as that user instead of apache.

Installing 5.0 - can't get license, error code 1

texis-old seemed to work, but I've tried installing a bunch of versions of Webinator since then as it wasn't acting like I expected it to. I've been a webinator user for several years so I'm not unfamiliar with how it works. There shouldn't be an other version running right now as I've killed the processes and deleted all but the 5.0 install. I'm installing as root, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

How do I check to see if SYSV IPC is on in my kernel?

[root@server russ]# ipcs

You should install while logged in as root but specify a non-root user when asked during the install. It looks like you've run at least a couple of versions as root (see the keys 0xdbaccee5 and 0xdbaccee2). Clean up with

ipcrm -m 32769
ipcrm -m 262151
