Stats on utilization/requests

Post by dschmidt »

I am getting lots of complaints about timed out searches and am thinking of getting a second search appliance. However, I'd like to get an idea of what the average utilization, number of performed/timed out searches are etc, but haven't found much that was helpful on the admin screens? Any suggestions?

Turn on query logging in the profile search settings.
Look at the texis log "vortex.log" to get info about timeouts.

Review your search settings to see if you've enabled something that might be causing the timeouts.

Mark,

Thanks for the info about the log file. Could you give me a hint what search settings are most likely to cause timeouts?

Thanks

Here are some things that could slow down queries to varying degrees:

Best bets.
Synonyms.
If used in the query:
@
linear
post processing
wildcards
within
Fast result counts off (this could be significant for noisy queries).
Proximity other than page.
Word forms other than exact.
Large ranked rows.
Large abstract size.
