meta profiles and Categories

I have two separate profiles, Profile1 indexes site A. Profile2 indexes site B, but we would like to include results from site A.

First Option: I can set Profile2 to index site A by adding it to the Base URL, but I'd rather not be walking site A twice.

Second Option: I can create a Meta Profile that includes Profile1 and Profile2, but it appears I can't set up Categories within my Meta Profile.

What can I do to not walk site A twice and still be able to apply Categories to my search interface?

A third option would be to use replication to push results from Profile1 into Profile2. As Profile1 walks Profile2 would be updated with the same data.
