Indexing Windows Share

Post by andreas.eriksson »

Hello!

I've been searching the Message Boards as well as the support documentation, but have yet to find what I'm looking for: a step-by-step instruction of how to index a windows (2000) file share from a Thunderstone Search Appliance (linux).

As far as I can see, I have succeeded in mounting the share via the Webmin interface:

--------------------------

Mounted as: lifile002
Type: Windows Networking Filesystem (smbfs)
Location: \\lifile002\it_support_documentation

Disk Usage:
Partition %Used Available Used Total
/ 9% 30G 3.0G 36G
/log 18% 771M 159M 980M
//lifile002/it_support_documentation
/mnt/locallifile002 94% 20G 280G 300G

--------------------------

Based on this, If I want to index the file share, what should my Base Url look like?

Kind regards,

Andreas

See "Indexing File Servers" under "Procedures and Examples".

Base URL would be file://lilfile002/it_support_documentation/

Though it doesn't look like it's mounted correctly. You may find the "Network Filesystems & Shares" under "Maintenance" easier to use than the Webmin interface.

Problem solved, thanks!

(I never found "Indexing File Servers" under "Procedures and Examples", but things worked a whole lot better using "Network Filesystems & Shares" under "Maintenance".)

Make sure you're reading the documentation on your appliance, not the Webinator docs on our web site.

Good point - I'll start doing that instead...
