Hi, I have loved webinator for over 10 years for my site. I have developed cusomized scripts for each of 5 data bases.

I would like to upgrade to 5.1, but wonder if there is any point and more importantly, if I do a live update and install the upgrade over v4.01 that my scripts or config files will need to be redone. This would be a horror story and a lot of work.

will 5.1 install on my unix/debian

Linux 2.6.18-5-686
Debian 4.0

WITHOUT PROBLEMS. In other words, just install and bingo!

Will the admin interface remain the same?

If you've customized dowalk you won't be able to take advantage of most new features until you switched to the new one, customized or not.

Customized search scripts will probably work with new databases. But as you say, incorporating your changes into the new search script to take full advantage of new features could be interesting depending on what kind of customizations you've made.

Webinator isn't tested on Debian but since version 4 is running there versino 5 probably will too.

Rather than doing the automated install you might want to install by hand by extracting the tar file to a similar but different location than your live installation. You'll need to adjust ownerships and perms yourself, in particular to make sure texis, monitor, etc are setuid to the proper user. http://www.thunderstone.com/site/webina ... nd_os.html
