We have a few records with the word 'rosa' and a lot of records with the word 'rose.' When I search for rosa, the rose records come up too, but they aren't really relevant to the search. Is there any setting or thesaurus entry that might narrow the built-in equivalence in a case like this?

That is probably the "Custom Suffix Default Removal" setting which treats trailing vowels as equivalent.
