Rewalk schedules disappearing

Post by michael.mongeau »

We use Webinator 6 on Windows, specifically Webinator Professional Version 6.01.1324485832 20111221 (i686-intel-winnt-64-32). The primary use is to create indexes for a documentation consisting of hundreds of individual books, each with its own search index. We currently have 380 separate profiles.

The majority of these profiles are rewalked on a weekly basis, at random days/times to spread out the load on the system. For the past few months whenever the documentation manager creates a new profile and gives it a rewalk schedule it erases all the existing profile rewalk settings. I then have to go into the Administrator / Maintenance / Advanced Support Tools and use the Re-schedule Walks utility to rebuild the schedule database. All is fine until a new profile is created. I've been doing this on a weekly basis but I'd like to find solve the underlying cause.

I have a weekly job that takes the output of 'texis -LS' and parses it to alert me to profiles that do not have a schedule. This job is how I discovered that the schedules were disappearing. It usually finds nothing but recently it has been reporting that hundreds of profiles do not have a schedule.

Do you have any clues as to why this is happening?

Here is what 'texis -LS' currently shows. These 9 profiles were all created on 10/10/17 or later. All rewalk schedules for older profiles that I had rebuilt last week are gone.

You have a fairly old copy of Webinator, and the handling of the schedules has been improved since then, so upgrading would be one option.

How does the output of texis -LS compare after the re-schedule? Is the script the same? There may have been a problem at some point where accessing the admin interface via different urls, or a copy of the script, could have caused that.

The output of texis -LS looks the same before and after. There are just more profiles after rebuilding the schedule database.

I'm concerned that the next time a new profile is added all the schedules will be wiped out again.

I can look into an upgrade. Can existing profiles be migrated to the latest version? Will custom Vortex scripts be compatible with the latest version?

Can you include one of the entries after rebuilding?

Yes, existing profiles can be migrated to the latest version.

As far as custom scripts go it really depends on which scripts you have customized, and how. Since almost all of the Webinator functionality is in the scripts then if you don't use the latest scripts you won't see the new functionality.

Here is one of the entries that was not in the output prior to rebuilding.

Script: E:\Apps\Thunderstone Software\Webinator\texis\scripts\Webinator\dowalk/dispatch.txt
Vars: profile=linux_Notes_ninerel what=sched
Schedule: weekly on tue at 16
Next run: 2017-10-17 16:00 (in 44 min)
Last run: never
First run: never
Status: runnable, 0 executions, first last, id 59e6565dac3

The script that has been customized the most is search.vs. A copy was made to customize the behavior and results of the search. If we upgrade I guess we'd have to look at making those customizations in the new search script included with the upgrade.

Also, modern scripts have many new features; if you upgrade, it would be worthwhile discussing with Thunderstone what changes you're trying to implement and see if it's possible nowadays without modifying the scripts yourselves.
