Storing url variables

Hi,
I'm trying to figure out how to store a "variable" -- basically, a
shopping cart id.
The initial URL I'm using is:
http://www/texis/webinator/search-books-simple?idit6391
I need to store the ending part and have it passed across searches. In
addition, it needs to be passed (in the url) when somebody clicks on one
of the search results.
Thanks,

Does Thunderstone have any examples of shopping cart usage available? I've
spent a couple of hours trying things to no avail.
Thanks.
