Trademark and Copywrite symbols

Post by Thunderstone »

We are using webinator search to catalog a site that contains copyright
and trademark symbols. When performing a search for text that would be
followed by a copyright symbol the Webinator Search engine works as
expected, bringing up the pages that the text is on. However, when
searching for text that is followed by a trademark symbol (i.e. AzoptTM)
by searching for Azopt the search engine returns nothing. If you search
for Azopttm the correct page shows up. I seems that Webinator is
treating the trademark symbol as part of the actual word and cataloging
it as one word.

The only way I see to solve this is creating a small TM graphic and
using that rather than the TM or &#153 or &trade (all which
do not return correct page). Is there another way around this. Thank
you for any assistance.

All entities are left exactly where they are in the text as they may
be normal letters as well as other things. You would need to place
a space between or use something different as you suggest.
