Word and WordPerfect Documents

I know that Webinator will index Word and WordPerfect documents: but

1) What exactly does the plug-in do?
2) Will it launch MS Word with the document loaded or does it convert the word document into HTML and load it via the explorer browser?
3) Do you have any documentation on-line that I can review?

If the plug-in doesn't launch MS Word with the document is there a way to do that?

thanks

It converts the document to ASCII text for indexing by Webinator.

Neither. It is self-contained and processes the file itself.

See the Webinator plugin documentation,
http://www.thunderstone.com/gw25man/node52.html.

You'd have to write your own plugin to do that, but the purpose of
Webinator plugins is different from browser plugins: in Webinator they
are used to _automate_ the retrieval of text in many documents at a
time, whereas in browsers they are used to _display_ the graphical
representation of documents, one at a time, to the user. Besides,
Webinator plugins are used at index time, not search time with the
user.
