I replaced the search script with a lycos script from
the webinator site, and nothing changed. I must have
missed something.

Texis and Webinator are located in my cgi directory,
but the rest of webinator is in its own directory,
not within cgi. Is that why the script did not run?

Make sure you are using the standard "texis" cgi program, not
the old "webinator" cgi.
Put the "av" script in the webinator directory (not cgi-bin).
Change your url from:
.../cgi-bin/texis/webinator/search/
to:
.../cgi-bin/texis/webinator/av/


That's the way it should be.
