Webinator 2 is Released

Post by Thunderstone »

Free Webinator version 2 is now available.

It may be found at:
http://www.thunderstone.com/webinator/

A few of the major new features are:

Highly customizable search interface using Texis Web Script.
Meta data retrieval and searching.
Proxy server support for walking.
Easier rewalking of an existing database.
Easier walking of entire networks or domains.
License check on port 80 instead of 10003 (free version).

If you are upgrading from an older version, you will need to re-register
to get the new one. The installation package is now delivered via http
instead of ftp.

Webinator 2 is compatible with Webinator 1.x databases, but you will have
to create a new database to take advantage of all of Webinator 2's features
such as meta data and option save/recall.

Commercial Webinator will be available in 2 weeks. Pricing will be announced
in 1 week, at which point we will begin accepting purchase orders.
Product will be shipped in the order that purchase orders are received.

Current commercial users may upgrade (for the same operating system
they currently have) for free, for a limited time, by providing the
disk registration number that is found on the distribution CD. Delivery
of these free upgrades will be by internet only. Those requiring hard
copy manuals or media will have to purchase the new version. To get a
commercial upgrade send email to us
with your name, company name, disk registration number, and operating system.

Webinator 2 is Released

Post by Thunderstone »

Thunderstone,

I tried to register and download Webinator 2, but I am not able to. The
response I get is that my web server host is unreachable. This is because
I am behind my company's firewall. Does this mean I will not be able to
use release 2? Or does it mean that you just cannot verify that the web
server exists. I have been using an earlier release with no problems, even
though I am behind the firewall. If I can use Webinator 2, is there a
alternate means for me to get it? Thanks!

The registration for the free version of Webinator 2 now requires that
the web server you are indexing exist. It does this by querying the
server; thus the server must be visible from the Internet.
Additionally (as with earlier releases), the machine you are walking
_from_ must be able to contact Thunderstone for Webinator to check its
license, which now occurs through port 80.

Neither restriction applies to the commercial version of Webinator.

Webinator 2 is Released

I am runnig 1.3 (commercial) on Digital Unix 3.2g and downloaded the
free 2.0 for testing. For my own sanity I unpacked the distribution cd'd
to that directory and then did a './webinator ' as well as './texis'.
The following output was what I saw (repeated lines edited out)

-------------------
[2] 6118
6118:./webinator
: /sbin/loader: Error: unresolvable symbol in ./webinator:

_OtsDivide64
_OtsDivide32
_OtsRemainder64Unsigned
_OtsDivide64Unsigned
_OtsRemainder32
_OtsRemainder64
_OtsMove
_OtsRemainder32Unsigned
_OtsDivide32Unsigned
hstrerror
6118:./webinator: /sbin/loader: Fatal Error: this executable has
unresolvable symbols

------------------

I have been to the search page to figure out if this has happened to
others before and have not found anything relevant. Any pointers will be
helpful.

Thanks.

..

Webinator 2 for DEC Alpha was built on a 4.0 system.
We are planning to build on DEC 3.2 in a week or two so we can
make that version available.
Sorry for the inconvience.
