What is the full Texis version (output of texis -version)? That might provide details of the OS it was compiled on, which would help determine whether it might run on a later OS. (It's iffy, since shared lib versions of e.g. the C lib change often over time.)

Commercial Version 2.6.929642470 of Jun 17, 1999 (i686-unknown-linux2.2.5) would we need to upgrade to a more recent version of texis?

Hard to say with a version that old. You'll almost certainly need libs from
ftp://ftp.thunderstone.com/pub/linux/ though.
