mystery "underscore" directories created

Post by Thunderstone »

I have Webinator default database set up and rewalking under a crontab file
(per ISP preference over -rewalk option).

Crontab executes every four hours. For several days all went smoothly.
Today, during two of the scheduled crontab rewalks, new directories were
created, one called _db and the other called __db

_db looks just like the default db directory (which is still there and was
used for the last crontab rewalk. __db only has the file gw.log in it.

Has something horrible happened or is this an anomaly? May I delete the
files in the directories and the directories themselves (will free up about
4MB of space)?

Thanks.

The _db directories are temporary databases used during rewalk. If
they're still around after rewalk has finished, it indicates there
was a problem with the rewalk and the process was abandoned. You should
check the gw.log files and the output from your cron job to see what the
problem was. If no rewalks are in progress those directories may be safely
deleted in their entirety.
