trying to limit a query for "admissions viewbook"

Post by Thunderstone »

Hi,

I've just started experimenting with Free Webinator 2.1 to
evaluate whether we want to commit to this as our primary
gather/search engine.

I've indexed our primary Web server (9500+) pages, at:

http://metaphor.unh.edu/cgi-bin/texis/webinator/search/

I'm stumped on what should be an elementary query and hope
to find out what I'm overlooking or misunderstanding. I'm
trying an initial query of
admissions viewbook
using the implied AND to find out how many matches
there are, then to narrow it to those in close proximity.
There are six matches to this first search. Those with
the title "USNH Contracts Listing" have the words in
no relation to each other, so I next went to use proximity
to eliminate those
admissions-viewbook
with Proximity=word and WordForms=exact.
I get six matches again, including the USNH Contracts that
should be excluded (doing a View Context on them confirms
that the occurrences of admissions and viewbook are not in
close proximity to each other in the file).

I also tried to use word order as a way to eliminate
the USNH Contracts matches, by reversing the query terms
"viewbook admissions"
but I still get the USNH Contracts matches that it seems to
me should be excluded.

This is installed on a DEC Alpha system with DUNIX 4.0.

The closest match proximity for your query is within a sentence.
All the other searches produce the following message at the top
of the results list:

"Nothing matched your query.
No documents matched your query exactly, so I tried a fuzzy search for you."

This is probably what caused your confusion.
