webinator on NT

Post by Thunderstone »

Mark et al.:
Is there a file I missed about installing on NT/MSIIS? I
made up how to use gwpatch (only on gw.exe; was that right?)
as I went along, but the defaults indicate that the software
was expecting a Netscape server. And now the software will
only let me use the _master database and the documentation
talks about chmod and chown, which NTers can't let on we
understand.

The system finally walked (to 214/4641 visiting 219 pages)
but indexing new pages only took 23 seconds and now at
http://hostname/scripts/webinator/texis ... or/search/
"the database does not appear to exist". I'm not confident
I've been translating right from UNIXish.

Thanks for your help. Love the concept, and appreciate the
"hosted at Webinator" search we've been using up till now.
Happy to RTFM if I can find it.
B.

It would appear that the final stage of the setup which runs gwpatch
did not run. Assuming that you are installing webinator into
c:\inetpub\wwwroot, and your cgi-bin directory is c:\inetpub\scripts
you need to run the following gwpatch commands.

gwpatch -dc:\inetpub\wwwroot\webinator\db -vc:\inetpub\scripts\ -ihttp: gw.exe c:\inetpub\scripts\webinator.exe

in the webinator\bin directory, and

gwpatch -dc:\inetpub\wwwroot\webinator\db -cc:\inetpub\scripts\ -ihttp: -t search defindex.html

in the webinator directory.

This should set everything up to run correctly.

JT:
Thanks. That got it. See notes below. Am I right that the NT platform is undercovered in the install
documentation, or was there a trove of info that I missed? Thanks again for your help. I teach a WebMaster
Certification course and I'll be talking up Webinator and Thunderstone.

There is not much to say about the NT installation under normal
circumstances. You just run the setup.exe, it asks a few simple
questions, then you're finished.
