Cannot access license server

Post by ian13 »

Subject should read Cannot contact license server

Have just reinstalled Webinator and get the above error when running gw.

I have just installed W2k Server as opposed to W2k Pro, due to the fact that I need to host multiple sites, and the Pro version of Internet Services Manager was restrictive. In the Pro version I had no problems with gw, which is why I'm perplexed as to why it is not working now.

I have checked the texis..dll in the System32 directory and it has full access. Likewise I have ensured that the Webinator directory has R/W access.

Please help

Your machine must be able to access the internet so that it can reach our website on port 80 to check the license.

I assume you're running gw from the command prompt in a dos window. What's your gw command line and what are the actual messages it's giving you?

There should be a program called geturl.exe in the webinator\bin directory along with gw. Try that
geturl http://ls.thunderstone.com/
You should get a short web page back.

"2001/03/14 14:09:52 Could not contact license server". A message i receive when i use gw command in dos prompt.
i have win98 installed on my machine.
Do we need any web server running like JWS?
I want detail steps to install under win98 and use sample examples given in the manual.

According to your manual, /usr/local/morph3/bin folder should be in the path. But on win 98, where I have installed it, I am not able to find this folder.

On windows, there's nothing more to setup that running the setup.exe and answering 2 questions. To use the example search scripts, simply place them into the same directory (webinator) as the default search script called "search" or "newsearch" and access them with a similar url replacing "search" with the name of the script you wish to run.

/usr/local/morph3/bin refers to a full Texis installation on unix. It does not apply to Webinator.

You didn't say what geturl did for you?

geturl http://ls.thunderstone.com/
gives message as follows:
"000 Can't get address for host `www.thunderstone.com': 11001 - unknown winsock error in the function: setaddr"

You need a webserver to run the search script. Any webserver with working CGI support is fine.

It looks like your DNS is not setup. Webinator is unable to lookup the IP address for hostnames. Talk to your network administrator about getting your DNS properly configured.

After running geturl, as suggested, I get a short web page as indicated.

Using Internet Explorer I can access any web page. I have no problem pinging sites. But as soon as I run gw, the Cannot contact license server message appears immediately.

Truely baffled.
