Searching a Vignette Site

Post by dzinser »

I have a Vignette site that I'm trying to correctly index. I'm running into a problem where I have a single page that appears in mulitple directories. How do I get the Webinator to only use one directory. Do I need to use GW to delete the pages from the table?

Thanks

Probably pages are appearing in multiple places because of the nature of a Vignette system, which doesn't necessarily store pages at all but rather generates them dynamically. The right way to index that is with Texis, which indexes the Vignette database content directly without web walking. And as mentioned elsewhere, database-driven sites do require a Texis license -- you should call the sales department about what you need to accomplish.

In the general case you may eliminate duplicate pages where the url is different from a walk by using the -unique option to gw. See the manual for how to use it..

you might also add a no-index meta-tag to your pages in Vignette and so prevent the indexing. If you are using a db for the generation you can mark pages and generate the meta-tag dynamically to your pages.
