Some questions

Post by gnarayan1 »

Hi,
We are in the process of evaluating search engines for our site and were looking for some answers.
Could you please provide us the answers to the following questions in terms of the Webinator.

1. Does it provide comprehensive search reports
2. Does it index the content served by JSP pages
3. Does it work across multiple platforms like BEA/InterWoven or Vignette
4. Does it search the secure pages
5. Does it support private domain labelling. It should display the search results as mysite.com instead of searchengine.com
6. Does it search advertisements
9. Does it use links on the site instead of folders
10. Does it allow associations between phrases and pages on the site. If customer searches for a word 'x' it should display pages containing word 'y' where we have set an association between x and y

Thanks

1. Yes
2,3. Yes, it will index whatever html pages your webserver gives.
4. https is not currently supported.
5. You may make it look exactly as you like. And all urls will be your own.
6. It will search whatever text is on the page. It has a feature to ignore certain user definable sections of the page.
9. It walks the site as users see it through the webserver, not by files on the disk/folders.
10. Yes. But would require a full Texis license to setup custom associations.

You can try it out for free at
http://www.thunderstone.com/webinator/
The manual is also there.

Thanks Mark, for your prompt response in answering all the questions.
I still have one question though.
All the HTML content in our site are going to be provided by JSP pages, some of which are dynamic.
I was wondering if the Webinator just searches from the doc root or we can also provide link to other dynamic content non necessarily present in our site.
Your prompt response will be greatly appreciated.

You may provide as many starting Urls as needed so that you can index pages that would not be found be walking from the root.

One thing I forgot to mention relates to the license rather than technical. Webinator's usage (without a full Texis license) is somewhat restricted. See ADDENDUM A (at the end) of the license http://www.thunderstone.com/texis/site/ ... mlic4.html
Items 4 and 5 in particular.
