hardware or software error?

Post by resume.robot »

I have been running -dns=sys for a while now on this 64 bit sun machine with some success.

Spidering processes don't seem to be killed.

However it seems to spider much more slowly than a linux machine in a different location, although there is better bandwidth available to the sun machine.

Is there something about DNS that might be a bottleneck?

Slow nameservers. Compare what nameservers the sun machine is using vs what the linux box is using (/etc/resolv.conf), your connectivity to them and their responsiveness.

Of course, I'm assuming your sun box is not overloaded and is similar in overall speed to the linux box.
