License not approved: missing/garbled data.

Post by Thunderstone »

I am installing Webinator on a Windows NT 4.0 sp3 64Mb system running
the MS Peer Web Server that comes with NT 4.0. The install appeared to
go well. And I changed the default.html file to have the "search" link
point to the root directory of my website:

http://design.esri.com/scripts/texis.ex ... or/search/

however, when I click on this link to run the search interface I get the
following error message:

License not approved: missing/garbled data

based on my review of the tech support list I find this is not a problem
with the data base but rather indicates I don't have a proper connection
to Thunderstone's server for checking registration.

My system is running on our company network that is outside our
firewall. I checked with out systems people and they say there is
nothing restricting the transfer of data from my machine to
Thunderstone's server.

What should I do? Is there someone I can talk to? I would even be
willing to purchase the commercial version of this product if it would
help me avoid this problem.

Please help :)

..

We have found recently that, besides bad firewalls and proxies, this
error can be caused by misconfigured machines doing virtual IP's.
If the machine's own idea of its host name doesn't resolve to its primary
IP address this error can occur. If you are using virtual IP's (more than one
IP number for a single machine) make sure that a lookup of the machine's
name will resolve to its primary IP number. This is the IP number that
outgoing packets are routed through and will be reported to the other end
of the connection (the license server).

The commercial version does not need to contact the license server and would,
therefore, eliminate any any of the above problems.
