request for webinator feature

Post by Thunderstone »

Here is a request for a new feature we'd like to see in the next version
of Webinator. We need to index documents that consist of separate
regions or "chunks", and return one of those "chunks" to the user in
response to a search request. This feature is available in other search
engines (WAIS, Glimpse) and we'd like to switch over to Webinator
because it has more features. Here is a description of our
requirements, from our Electronic Document Service:

Ideally it would recognize SGML-like tags and the WAIS
separator-line style as well. The latter is the minimum required,
and it should be definable by the indexer, i.e., any arbitrary
string beginning a line.

Also: there is a bug I would like to see fixed in the next version.
When a new index is created by gw, the directory and two files
(SYSLOCKS and SYSLOCKS.SEQ) are given world write access. I always
have to change the directory protection and file protection when a new
index is created.

Webinator is a general purpose web indexer based on Texis. If you want to
implement a custom web based text retrieval application you need to buy Texis,
also known as Webinator T1000. See http://www.thunderstone.com/webinator/ .
