NT 4/IIS 4 config?

Post by chand012 »

I have installed Webinator on NT4/IIS4 and successfully indexed, but when I access the search script from the browser I get a page with the version info and an error: "000 Cannot get config settings". It seems I shouldn't even need to index in order to get something here. I even uninstalled and reinstalled Webinator--same thing. I can run texis.exe from the command line and I checked to make sure the IUSR_MACHINE_NAME user had R/W permissions on the webinator tree.

Does gw.exe work at all?

If you are using the free version of Webinator you must ensure that you are connected to the internet.

You should also ensure that %windir%\system32\texissct.dll has RW permissions on it for the IUSR_ account as well as the user you are logged in as, or more simple Everyone.

NT 4/IIS 4 config?

I am using a hosted web service; I cannot install any DLLs on the server, all I can do is run programs inside the cgi-bin interface. That's what CGI is for. What is this about a DLL in the system directory??? If Webinator requires a system install and registry entries, then it is useless to me and many others. But is this the case? The instructions are all for Unix; they ported the code but not the instructions to a Windows environment.

There's little need for NT installation instructions. It follows the common way of installing NT software. Run "setup.exe" while logged in at the console. It does the rest.

Perhaps you can convince your ISP to install Webinator and make it available to all of their clients. Or you could use a Webinator service hosted elsewhere such as master.com.

Thanks for this clarification -- that Webinator won't work unless you can install it directly on the box.

Yes, Setup is automatic but it is always helpful to tell people where all the files are installed. There are many reasons why people may need to know this, and it is nothing like on Unix. If I had known this in the beginning, it would have saved me a lot of time.
