I downloaded the Free version yesterday. The file name was not what was found in the Webinator Manual pages, nor were the installation instructions needed to install it. The filename was 'webinator_tar.tar' not 'webinator.tar.z'. First I tried to 'uncompress' it, but a message said, in essence, that the file did not have the '.z' extension. Next, since it was a 'tar' file, I attempted to extract it using the 'tar' command. A message displayed that said it was not a tar archive. After fiddling with it, I changed the name to 'webinator_tar.gz' and used 'gunzip', which worked.
Next, I typed in the './install' command (without these single quotes, of course), and it went into the 'editor' mode and outputted the 'Readme1st.txt' content. After a while, I decided to change the readme filename so that the install command would not find it, just to see what would happen. This worked. The installation began and the installation questions were prompted.
Today, out of curiousity, I used the command, 'gw -version' to find out which sub-version I had. The following info was displayed:
Webinator WWW Site Indexer Version 2.5 (Free)
Copyright(c) 1995,1996,1997,1998 Thunderstone EPI Inc.
Release: 19981022
Is this the newest version for BSDI 4.01? Should I be using this version?
Thank you.
