counter not unique??

I was always under the assumption that counter was unique, but today we found two records with the same value in the id column. Further research found 65 more of them with dupes. Is there an issue here..??

Yes, counters will be unique if generated using the counter keyword as the value and you have locking enabled. Can you give example values of dupes?

Those look like validly generated counters. Is it possible that a record was copied, and reinserted into the database?

Actually the rest of each duplicated record is different. Only the id column is the same value. All the rest of the record was different though.

How are you generating the counter value that is being inserted?

All of the counter values are being set when we do a timport of data from text.

Timport from command line or vortex?
If from vortex are you using any form of singleuser mode?
And what's your insert statement?
