Help setting up webinator!

Post by Thunderstone »

I have downloaded the AIX4.x free version of the Webinator. Can
this be installed by a user without root access? For example,
can the engine be installed under /home/user_name/public_html ?
If so, what changes does one need to make this work?

Desparate for help-

Yes. It can be installed without root access, but you need to be able
to run cgi programs from the web server. Also, when asked who your
web server runs as enter your own account (since you probably won't
be able to make the programs setuid to anyone else).

To do searches, you will have to specify a url that specifies the
correct cgi directory and where your search script is. e.g.:

http://www.somesite.com/~myaccount/cgi- ... or/search/

The above is only one example. Your url may be different depending on
your cgi setup.

Ok,

I have re-installed the program under
~myname/public_html/webinator. I have "public_html/cgi-bin" as
the directory with my cgi programs. The webserver uses
"cgiwrap" to run cgi programs under my userid. So, I filled in
my userid during the install. Now the script output is just
"CGIwrap Error: Script is SUID - Will not Execute!" When I left
the Userid install option blank I got the 002 error:
"Error:002 /home/housing/public_html/cgi-bin/texis/~housing/webinator/search:
Can't open source file
/home/housing/public_html/cgi-bin/texis/~housing/webinator/search:
Not a directory in the function compilefile

Any more clues? I think I am almost there.

Thanks for the help so far.

The webserver (or possibly the CGI wrapper) isn't properly setting the
PATH_TRANSLATED environment variable when executing Vortex (texis).
This variable should be the true file path to the search script
(presumably /home/housing/public_html/webinator/search). Apparently the
cgi-bin path is not being removed, and the ~ reference isn't expanded.

Check with your web server administrator and configure your server
such that PATH_TRANSLATED gets set correctly in your environment.

Help setting up webinator!

Greetings - I've just set up webinator on my server, and am having a few
problems with getting it find all of the sites I want to index. I have
about twenty virtual domains, all set up under a single IP address.
Webinator finds my main site, but ignores the other virtual domains (I'm
using the url.lst command to specify my sites).

I used this command:
/gw "&url.lst"

Am I SOL because of the way my server is set up, or is there a
work-around?
