The first Q isn't at all stupid.
The "database name" is the same as the directory name in which
all the tables reside.
For the second Q I'll have to turn the flamethrower on high.
We're just about as likely to support Oracle as would be Informix or Sybase.
Besides, all of them suck big time in the area where we excel: TEXT .
Only Thunderstone has a fully integrated SQL + Text Retrieval RDBMS.
All flames aside though, we usually support legacy DB's through foreign keys.
IE: You join the two RDBMS systems together by sharing common keys between
them and joining the data together in the application.
Actually, Texis got its name from the first time we did this in a
terabyte DB/2 + Thunderstone application done for NASA - Johnson Space Flight
in Texas about 9 years ago. ( It also stands for Text Information Server. )

PS. Excuse the marketing, but I think this company is really neat, and
not enough people are aware of how much more horsepower is under the
hood in our stuff compared to our more troglodyte relatives
like Excite and Verity.
We are elated that there are so many diverse Webinator users out there
banging on the software and asking good questions. You're really
going to like the next release even more. We're going to release the
Texis Web Script source code version of the Webinator.
In Webinator 2 you'll be able to fully customize the look, feel,
and behavior of the Webinator at your site. You'll also be able
to do exotic things like query other Internet servers and easily
incorporate other active features into your site.
