NT 4.0 and IIS 2.0

Post by Thunderstone »

Hi,
This is a question to the webinator list. I just installed the free
version of webinator for NT 4.0. I have our site currently on three
machines. Two of them are old RS6000s running AIX 3.2.* (which is not
supported by thunderstone anymore). So, I have the webinator now running
on a third machine (NT 4.0 with MS-IIS 2.0).

It indexed the RS6000 just fine (www.museum.state.il.us), but gw will
not index the local machine (called hoot, but with a dns CNAME of
www-exhibits.museum.state.il.us) where I currently have only one (large)
portion of our web site. My command was

gw -d\inetpub\wwwroot\search\webinator\athome
http://www-exhibits.museum.state.il.us/exhibits/athome/

(except all in one line)
and I get back a 401 access denied message. The same url works in
browsers. Where is the problem?

It would appear that the web server is not allowing access to pages
from itself. I expect a web browser run on the same machine would give
similar results. Check your web server's config to ensure that the
local machine (itself) has permission to access web pages.

I apologize to the list and Thunderstone for taking your time. I found
that I had (through being a NT newbie) set a password requirement on the
web server. I didn't see it because my browser was using the cache.
