Possible to Change the background ?

Post by Thunderstone »

Hey Guy's,

It's looking pretty good !!!!!! Are we allowed to change AT LEAST the
Background image for the following :

"standard search form" page
"search results" page

Your "top" and "bottom" HTML pages help but Really are "NO CIGAR".

Please give an example of what you mean by the following paragraph.

"You may totally rewrite the initial search form by accessing Webinator
with your web browser and saving the source to the form it generates."

Are you talking about the:

Thunderstone's Webinator
Web Index & Retrieval System

Perform a search.

Read the documentation.

Page ? This page saves as webinator.html and has no <form></form> fields
in it.

"You may then modify that source to your liking and use that as your
initial access page to Webinator."

I would want to have the actually page that contains the "Form" as my
initial search page and would want to be able to modify it as a standard
html page but I do a save on the page that comes to my client (by
accessing http://www.microoutlet.com/cgi-bin/webinator/) and it also
gets named webinator.html. Is this the standard page I upload to the
server once I make all the modifications ?

Looking forward to hearing from you with some good news.

Sorry for all the dumb questions.

best Regards,
Jerry Roy

Have you tried it? They do exactly what you are asking. We do the
same thing. Our top.html looks something like this:
<title> Search Thunderstone </title>
<body bgcolor=#ffffff link=#8080ff vlink=#8080ff alink=#ff8080 background=/jump/
tbg.gif>
<h2>Thunderstone Website Index</h2>

Access http://www.yoursite.com/cgi-bin/webinator
(or whatever the url to your webinator executable is)
It will issue the stock form. Then save the returned html source document.
Change the <form> action variable to the full url path to webinator, then
make any customizations you like.

I've just started using webinator, but from what I understand this works
for the initial query, but not the results page. I'd like to be able to
make the form on the results page more consistant with my initial query. I
don't see why the results page output from webinator can't just be the
hits, and let us code the form as part of the top file.

Another capability I'd like, which I haven't been able to figure out how to
do, is to apply a filter to what goes into the index. I'd like to be able
to create an index containing only the pages referring to certain keywords
from a set of pages walked with gw. This would be a great feature for
creating search engines on a specific topic.

Another thing I can't figure out how to do is to provide "-j" directory
restrictions with a list of urls for more efficient walking. Right now I
do them one at a time.

The final thing I'd like to see in the new version, whenever it comes out,
is some basic statistics reporting. At the very least, the results page
should tell the user that they're looking at 1-10 out of XXXXX hits.
That's important. I'd also like to be able to show on the initial query
screen how many pages are in the index and possibly a list of the urls in
the index. I know you can get these from the command like with sql
queries, but what about hardcoding a couple into webinator so we could put
them in the query forms.
